Anisha Polson

I read Law at St John’s College, University of Cambridge. I’m currently working as a Tax lawyer at Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP in its London office.

Why did you choose the Pathways to Law programme?

At the time, I was just finishing off my GCSEs and I was exploring different career paths. When this particular scheme was started by the Sutton Trust, I was very keen to get involved and very grateful to be included.

What do you most enjoy about studying this programme?

I really enjoyed the summer school at the University of Warwick, this really gave me a taste what it is like to study at University and specifically study law at University. I was also very happy to get a taste of professional life by way of the work experience offered through the scheme.

What has been the highlight of the programme?

Summer school

Have you been involved in any other activities outside the programme which you think maybe relevant to your degree and career, such as events or groups?

I also took part in debating at College which helped me with interviews skills.

What are your future plans? How do you feel being on the Pathways to Law programme has prepared you for your future plans?

It really helped me demonstrate a serious intention to pursue law as a career when I applied to University. I think it set me apart in my Cambridge applications to be able to demonstrate this so clearly, especially as it is very difficult to obtain work experience in law at that stage (GCSE/A levels) without personal contacts in the industry.

Name one valuable experience that you will take away with you that you could have only experienced on this programme?

Work experience at barrister chambers and at a law firm.

What advice would you give to new students about to study this programme?

It is a very useful programme and you should make the most of it. It will help you with your University applications, it is a great way of meeting people who work in law, and finally it will give you food for thought as you try and make the decision about whether you want to pursue law as a career.
