Dr Kevin Gillan, Sociology

Research focus: Social movement and protest.

Kevin has been teaching in the department of sociology for 10 years, and has had a positive influence on the learning experience of our students. Kevin recognised a gap in the teaching curriculum and helped develop the new first year course ‘Global Social Challenges’ which focuses on more contemporary topics. He wanted students to discover new perspectives about the current issues taking place in the world and to become more aware as sociological thinkers.

His role in implementing this course contributed towards winning ‘The University of Manchester Distinguished Achievement Award’ in 2018.
