Healthcare Ethics and Law MA
What made you choose this course?
I am a Paediatric Nurse and Public Health Specialist Practitioner. Through my career I have had the privileged opportunity to gain a wide range of clinical experience, including working in the complex healthcare arena. I have worked with the most vulnerable children and young people in our communities with a particular emphasis on safeguarding.
This experience has supported my development into a senior leadership role in a large provider organisation that delivers clinical care across communities and a range of settings. My role requires leadership and decision-making, often including complex legal and ethical dilemmas.
I was looking for an MA course that would support my professional role and enhance my critical clinical thinking and practice, which I could study part-time to complement my career.
This course at Manchester is one that is highly recommended by fellow healthcare leaders as a course of excellence that supports a greater insight of the legal frameworks and moral arguments that can be applied in practice.
What do you most enjoy about studying here?
I have grown personally and professionally through participation in debates with my fellow students and academic tutors.
I have also really enjoyed the challenge of my own thinking. The range of seminars and debates available are excellent in supporting greater insight and broader thinking.
What has been the highlight of your course so far?
I have enjoyed the entire course so far and really benefitted from the wider reading and debates. The academic tutors are very supportive and flexible so that I’ve been able to study the course over three years and so retain some study/work life balance.
I have grown in academic confidence and as I approach my dissertation, a once greatly feared task, I find myself chomping at the bit to get started and explore my chosen area!
What are your plans after graduation? How do you feel studying at Manchester has prepared you for this?
The course has enhanced my critical thinking greatly and given me a greater appreciation of the legal frameworks and ethical reasoning that I am applying to practice every day.
In the current financial climate there are many ethical and legal dilemmas. This course has allowed me to grow in confidence and credibility and to champion the fact that clinical excellence and quality influence and drive financial decision making.
