We are establishing a Migration Museum for the UK, shining a light on the way that immigration and emigration has shaped us all. I oversee our education programme and the Migration Network – a national network supporting the increase and improvement of work on migration and intersecting themes across the museum and culture sectors.

I didn’t know the career I am currently in existed! Starting a museum from scratch is certainly a big adventure. In my career so far this is certainly the role that has most drawn on my course at Manchester.

My experience at Manchester

Anthropology instils in you a curiosity for everyone and everything and teaches you to always read life ‘against the grain’. I remember excellent teaching and fascinating modules that broadened my mind and my worldview. I’ve certainly drawn on these things in all of my career roles so far.

My advice for future students

I’m amazed by the massive range of different careers friends from my course have gone on to: community organising, film editing, civil service, teaching, law, social work, counselling. I’d say the BSocSci Social Anthropology course sets graduates up well so they can make their way into all these careers and more.

From my experience at Manchester, I would definitely recommend it.
