Discover Manchester: Criminology

Discover Manchester: Criminology
Date: Thursday, 13 June 2024, 9.30am – 3.30pm
Venue: University of Manchester, Oxford Road Campus

Come along to Discover Manchester: Criminology to learn what it’s like to study the subject at university. The day will give you an overview of Criminology, as well as a broader insight into our School of Social Sciences.

You will receive an introduction to the University and the School of Social Sciences by experienced staff members and hear about the Criminology course in more detail from a top academic; broaden your horizons by attending two workshops, delivered by PhD students, delving deeper into the world of Criminology; get the chance to meet a range of alumni; chat to our undergraduate students as well as have the option of attending a campus tour.

Please note that you do not have to be currently studying Criminology or related subjects to attend – we welcome all students who have an interest in Social Sciences to attend.

How to book:

The event is free of charge. Booking is on a first-come, first served basis and places are limited. Y12 students should book their individual place via this form. Teachers will receive an automated email alert when a student books.

Y12 students may attend without a teacher. However, teachers are warmly invited to come along. If you would like to accompany your students, you can book a teacher place by emailing emma.mcdougall@manchester.ac.uk.

World Anthropology Day 2024

World Anthropology Day 2024: Workshop at The University of Manchester

Date: Thursday 15 February 2024

Time: 9:00-13:30

Venue: University of Manchester, Oxford Road Campus

Come along to celebrate World Anthropology Day 2024 with the University of Manchester’s renowned Social Anthropology Department. This day will introduce students a step further into the world of social anthropology and encourage students to explore new concepts. This workshop gives students the opportunity to meet academics and students from the department and to get a taste for campus life.

In the morning, you will have an introduction to the University, the Social Anthropology Department and a session on ‘Inequality in everyday life” delivered by experienced staff and renowned academics. In the late morning into early afternoon, there will be three workshops taking place at the same time and students will rotate three times to explore each topic. These workshops will be facilitated by academics and student ambassadors.

Please note that you do not have to be currently studying Sociology or related subjects to attend – we welcome all students who have an interest in Social Sciences to attend.

The event is free of charge. Booking is on a first-come, first served basis and places are limited. There is no group booking for schools – Y12 and Y13 students should book their individual place via this form. Teachers will receive an automated email alert when a student books.

Travel bursaries

We recognise that the cost of travel to campus can be a barrier to some candidates from taking part in our on-campus events. To help overcome this, for eligible students we offer to pay bus, train or coach travel to attend these days.

You are eligible if you:

  • Are currently or have previously been in receipt of free school meals
  • Are currently in receipt of the 16-19 bursary
  • Are currently enrolled on the Manchester Access Programme (MAP)
  • Are care-experienced or have refugee status

Further information on how to receive this support will be given on receipt of your booking.
