Student Chapter

Manchester's International Law Centre supports students aiming for careers in International Law.

Student activities

The Manchester International Law Centre (MILC) actively involves undergraduate and postgraduate students in its work and supports a wide range of opportunities for learning and engagement in international law. These initiatives enable students to develop their skills, broaden their perspectives, and contribute to ongoing debates in the field.

Nuremberg Moot Court

Four students at the Nuremberg Palace of Justice.

Students from the Department of Law, including participants from the LLM in Public International Law, took part in the annual Nuremberg Moot Court.

Held at the historic Nuremberg Palace of Justice, the competition brings together teams from around the world to argue hypothetical cases in international criminal law before panels of expert judges.

International Law Summer Schools

From 14 to 17 July 2025, the sun-soaked town of Roccella Jonica, nestled along the southern coast of Italy, became the vibrant setting for two interconnected international academic events: the 2025 Roccella Summer School of International Law and the Global Law and Political Economy (GLPE) Summer Academy.

Co-organised by Dr Emma Luce Scali and Professor John Haskell (Department of Law, University of Manchester), alongside Professor Raffaella Nigro (University ‘Magna Graecia’ of Catanzaro), these events gathered an exceptional and diverse community of around 70 participants – including researchers, students (undergraduate and postgraduate), professionals, and practitioners – from across the globe to critically engage with some of the most urgent issues at the intersection of international law, justice, and political economy. The organisers were particularly pleased to welcome a wonderful group of students from the University of Manchester.

UN Report on the Environment

Under the supervision of Professor Carolyn Abbot and Dr Yusra Suedi, and with the support of MILC, undergraduate and postgraduate students prepared a collective report in response to the UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Right to a Healthy Environment’s call for input on Environmental Impact Assessments, Strategic Environmental Impact Assessments and the Right to a Clean, Healthy and Sustainable Environment. The report showcases the contribution of Manchester students to global legal debates.
