Commercial research sector

Graduates from the MSc in Social Research Methods and Statistics (SMRS) explain how the course has helped them pursue careers in the commercial research sector.

"Since completing my MSc I have been working for Adelphi Values, providing research support on projects in the Endpoint Development and Outcomes Assessment practice. Tasks involve performing literature and internet-based research, carrying out qualitative and quantitative research and analysis, and writing reports of the selection, development and validation of patient-, clinician- and observer-reported outcomes."

"I enrolled on the SRMS master's course after seven years of working for a private sector social research company, principally to gain the theoretical underpinning to my practical research experience. The course has equipped me with a sound understanding of statistical and survey principles which I utilise regularly in my new job as a research project manager for a London based market research firm. The firm is a full service market research agency with a strong emphasis on international multi-country research projects; often with hard-to-reach elite audiences including MPs, newspaper editors, trade union leaders and company directors. Countries that I have managed research projects, include Japan, the US, South Korea, Poland, Russia, Germany and of course the UK."

"Studying part time I completed the SRMS MSc course at CMIST whilst also working as a Social Research Consultant. The course equipped me with many skills which were relevant to my job and have allowed me to improve my career prospects. I am now a Senior Research Consultant and Project Manager at a leading research consultancy and continuing the research interests developed during my studies."
