My research will look at the increasingly relevant topics of the temporary contract and bureaucracy in the context of a British factory with an outsourced human resources department. It will examine the fragmented and temporary nature of current organisations, types of subjectivity created by encounters with such organisations and ideologies which sustain these current types of working practices. As temporary working arrangements and new forms of bureaucracy appear to have proliferated in recent times, becoming an inescapable reality for most UK workers, I hope that my chosen field-site will serve as a microcosm of current neoliberal capitalism which will allow me to tease out something of its nature.
