The East Manchester Legal Advice Centre
The East Manchester Legal Advice Centre (EMLAC) is run by the University of Law Manchester. It operates from The Settlement, New Roundhouse, 1328-1330 Ashton Old Road, Openshaw, M11 1JG.
EMLAC has been established to provide a service to the local community and enable students studying at the University of Law to obtain practical, legal experience.
The service offers initial advice only following an interview. EMLAC cannot take on case work. The students who operate EMLAC are studying for legal qualifications, but work under the supervision of a qualified lawyer who holds a current practising certificate.
The clinic offers assistance with:
- Consumer Law
- Landlord and Tenant
- Employment Law
- Family Law
The Clinic aims to provide a high standard of service similar to that offered by a solicitors' practice. Amongst other things we will:
- Put your interests first;
- Be polite and considerate in our dealings with you;
- Make every effort to provide relevant and realistic advice in plain language;
- Treat all clients fairly, not discriminate against anyone; and
- Keep your information confidential.
Please telephone 01483 216924 to leave a short voicemail message together with your details and a brief summary of your problems. Our students will then contact you to take more details and we will then let you know if we can assist and arrange a face-to-face interview.
Please note we can assist only a limited number of clients within our areas of expertise and during term time.
