Mental health law and capacity

This online course explores issues around mental health, and the legal implications of determining capacity. It is suitable for all healthcare professionals and anyone with an interest in this area. It requires no previous training.

About the course

This course walks you through the main issues in mental health law and capacity, providing a summary after each topic, to consolidate your study, and concludes with a short multiple-choice quiz to check on your progress. Topics covered in the course are:

  • Mental Capacity, Competence and Consent (4 study hours approx.)
  • Refusal and Withdrawal of Treatment (3 study hours approx.)
  • Mental Capacity in Children and Adolescents (5 study hours approx.)

Accreditation

While this course is not formally accredited by any professional bodies you should be able to claim CPD credit for the hours you spend studying, including any extra reading you do as part of the course. When completing your CPD profile, your certificate of completion of the course and printouts of the course content can be used as supporting evidence.

Course fees

The fee for this course is £190, with a discount of 10% for University of Manchester alumni and significant discounts for block bookings.
