Shirley Baker exhibition wins City Life award, with a little help from sociologists
9 February 2018
Visitors to the Manchester Art Gallery’s Shirley Baker exhibition have been able to hear the voices of some of the children photographed by Baker in post-war Manchester and Salford. The stories, gathered by a University of Manchester sociologist, were used to make an audio guide to the exhibition which has won the City Life Award for Best Art Exhibition 2018.
The Shirley Baker exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery was awarded the City Life Award for Best Art Exhibition at a ceremony at the Deaf Institute. The awards celebrate the best in bars, pubs, restaurants, casual dining, clubbing, live venues, theatre, art, and comedy over the last 12 months. The Raqib Shaw exhibition at the University’s The Whitworth gallery was also shortlisted in the Best Art Exhibition category.
