Politics academics recognised for General Election exit poll contribution

8 December 2017

Three politics academics from The University of Manchester were part of a team of nine given the Special Recognition Awards at the Political Studies Association Annual Awards 2017.

Professor Rob Ford, Jonathan Mellon and Patrick English from the Politics Department were part of the team which projected the BBC/ITV/Sky exit poll for the 2017 General Election.

Rob Ford said: "I am delighted that the PSA have chosen to recognise our work on the exit poll. It is a wonderful experience to work with a team of talented colleagues to help voters and politicians alike make sense of the election results as they come in, and it is a great thrill to be at the heart of the action on election night."

Chris Orme, Head of School of Social Sciences, added: “It is really pleasing to see the excellence of this analysis being recognised. The exit poll analysts, based here in the Politics Department, work alongside other Manchester based researchers on the British Election Study and make Manchester a centre of psephological analysis and excellence.”
