'Our Migration Story' website wins award
6 October 2017
The School of Social Sciences' 'Our Migration Story' website has been judged the joint winner of a Community Integration award, which rewards best practice in community integration and cohesion across the UK.
Drawing on the words and research of more than 60 historians based in universities and historical institutions – including the National Archives, the Imperial War Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Royal Historical Society – the website presents the often untold stories of the generations of migrants who came to and shaped the British Isles.
An AHRC-funded collaboration between The Runnymede Trust and academics at the Universities of Manchester (Professor Claire Alexander) and Cambridge, the website is primarily aimed at teachers and students studying migration to Britain and it includes a range of resources and information.
The website was recognised in the Research Champions category of the awards.
This article has been published as part of Manchester Migration Month, a series of events, activities and articles running throughout October that explore migration's relationship with inequalities, social justice, belonging and Brexit.
