Hannah Wertheim, Sociology
Why did you choose the University of Manchester?
I have lived in Manchester all my life and it is such a great city I did not want to leave. Being a student here made me see the city in a different way and allowed me to appreciate it even more.
What do you like in Manchester as a city?
The night life is excellent and the cultural mix of people gives the city a unique energy.
What has been the highlight of your course so far?
Handing in my dissertation of 13000 words was definitely the highlight. It tookme 8 months of hard work, from deciding the initial topic to research to completion, but I learnt so much along the way. It gave me a great sense of achievement was it was finished.
What is it like to study Sociology?
As the number of the people taking the course is low you get to know the people in your tutorial groups well which is a great benefit if you have to do group work and presentations. The lecturers and tutors are very approachable and share their enthusiasm of their specific topics.
What social/extra-curricular opportunities have been opened up for you by studying at the University?
I was fortunate to be able to help in the initiation of the peer mentoring committee which will hopefully have a long term benefit upon the future Sociology students.
