English language requirements

All applicants to the School of Social Sciences are expected to have an appropriate English language qualification.

Examples include:

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) at which applicants are expected to achieve a grade of 6.5 overall with no less than 6 in any component;
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a requirement of 92 Internet-based (with no lower than 21 in writing and listening, 22 in reading and 23 in speaking);
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) OR Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE). Applicants taking either of these from January 2015 onwards are expected to achieve 176 or above
  • GCSE/O-level/iGCSE (First Language) at Grade C or above.

Candidates offering other qualifications should contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office for guidance on their suitability.
