Introduction
The School is home to several major pioneering research initiatives, many of which are highly interdisciplinary in their remit and composition. The strengths of these initiatives lie in their ability to span discipline boundaries and pursue leading-edge research often at the social sciences’ interfaces with the arts, business and management and the natural sciences.
The outstanding research culture of the School is illustrated by the number of leading academic journals edited by its members, including The Manchester School itself, one of the premier Economics journals. The establishment of the Brookes World Poverty Institute and the Institute for Social Change present new and exciting opportunities for international collaborations.
The disciplinary areas in the School have consistently provided members of successive RAE panels and in the next REF 2014 The School is providing panel members in Economics, Politics, Sociology and Social Anthropology. School members also serve on the ESRC Council and committees.
