Vital Signs 2: Location
The conference will be held at the University of Manchester at the Oxford Road campus, which is about a mile south of Manchester city centre and so very easy to get to by train, road and air.
Conference venue
The conference will be held in the Humantities Bridgeford Street Building, which is number 35 on the University of Manchester campus map [opens in new window].
If you are heading from the city centre down Oxford Road, watch out for a pedestrian bridge over the road with 'University of Manchester' on it. Just past the bridge, you will see a big building on the left that looks like a giant tin drum. Bridgeford Street is on the opposite side of the road to this building, and behind the Arthur Lewis Building.
We have been able to secure temporary conference accounts for delegates. Information about how delegates will receive the log-in details will be published here shortly.
Getting to the University of Manchester
There are fairly comprehensive directions and maps on the University of Manchester website.

There are two campuses: you'll need the Oxford Road campus. This is about a mile south of the city centre and is easy to find because Oxford Road is a main road out of the city centre.
The closest train station is Oxford Road. From here, the easiest options are:
- a 10 minute walk: the station exit leads to Oxford Road, so all you have to do is make sure you're heading in the right direction, out of the city centre!
- a bus: leave the station, cross over Oxford Road and there are lots of buses, most of which will stop at the university, but check with the driver to be sure
- taxi from the station
Most trains will stop at Manchester Piccadilly, which is in the city centre. From here, the easiest options are:
- a 20-25 minute walk: the best bet is to head for Oxford Road and walk it down to the university
- a 147 Oxford Road bus link from the station: every 10 minutes during the day from Piccadilly station to the university, though the last bus to leave the station is 18.50. See 147 timetable [new window]
- a bus from Piccadilly Gardens: this is the main bus terminus a 5 minute walk from Piccadilly train station. Buses are very frequent and there are lots of services that go down Oxford Road. Aim for a 42, 43, 142 or 143 if you aren't sure, or check with the driver.
- a taxi from the station
