Vital Signs 2: Accommodation

Delegates will need to arrange their own accommodation in Manchester during the conference. There are plenty of places to stay in Manchester so this is fairly straightforward, but below are some suggestions for different budgets. Please note, this is by no means an exhaustive list and we do not recommend these hotels, they are only suggestions.

Accommodation in Halls of Residence

Canterbury Court HallsNot perhaps the most glamorous option (one hall lists a "waste bin" as a feature of the room) but cheap. You can get an en-suite single for under £20 a night. It's worth checking the terms and conditions because it is a little bit different from hotels: you won't get breakfast, you will need to "hire" sheets for a small fee, but you usually have kitchen access. Not all the halls are available during Vital Signs.

All the halls are within striking distance of the conference, either on foot or by bus. The Victoria Park halls are convenient for the main conference sessions, the conference dinner, shops and cafes/restaurants in Rusholme.

Ibis, Portland Street

This is one of the cheapest city centre hotels. It is about 1 mile away from the conference venue, and there are plenty of buses serving the university.

Rooms are £62 per night and breakfast is £6.95 or there are plenty of places nearby where you could eat. The Ibis is just on the edge of Chinatown.

Luther King House

Luther King House is a few miles south of the city centre on Wilmslow Road, which is a continuation of Oxford Road. A single room, including breakfast is £45.

It is about 1.5 miles to the conference venue. It is an easy-to-navigate walk or there are lots of buses. Luther King House is handy for Rusholme, home of Manchester's curry mile.

Youth Hostel

If you are looking for a cheap option, the Youth Hostel is starts at £17.95/night and breakfast is £4.95. It's 2 miles from the conference venue in the Castlefield area.

Hilton, Deansgate

This is a very expensive option but as it's Manchester's tallest building it would make finding your way back in the evening easy. Rooms start at £90 (but you need to book early, otherwise they go up to about £150/night) and breakfast is an additional £10.

Jury's Inn

Jury's Inn is about 15-20 minutes walk from the conference venue. Rates start at about £85 for Bed & Breakfast.
