Training Workshops : Creative Interviewing
Date: 20 November 2008, 10-4.30pm
Location: University of Newcastle
Workshop organiser: Jennifer Mason
Workshop summary
This course will provide a practical and hands-on introduction to qualitative interview methods. It is called ‘creative interviewing’ to emphasise the situational creativity that is inherent in these methods, in contrast to, for example, structured survey interviews where questions are asked from a pre-given script.
During the workshop, participants will conduct a short interview on a topic of their choice with a fellow participant, and also be interviewed themselves. Interviews will be recorded and transcribed, and following the workshop each interviewer will be provided with:
- the recording of the interview they conducted (but not the one in which they were interviewed)
- the transcript
- feedback from the course leader, Jennifer Mason.
As well as the one-day workshop, there will be an online tutorial (date to be confirmed).
