Services and facilities
In Summer 2007 the School relocated to a new purpose-built, state-of the art facility at the heart of the campus and all our constituent disciplines are housed in the Arthur Lewis Building, named after the Nobel prize winning economist who taught at Manchester. There are dedicated study and IT facilities for post graduate students in the new building, and 24/7 access to these for our postgraduate community.
The library facilities at Manchester are among the very best in the country. The John Rylands University Library is one of the largest academic libraries in the UK. As well as its massive collection of books and journals, thousands more items can be accessed electronically. The Library’s electronic resources are state of the art; access is not only available via computer clusters in the School and in the Library itself, but are also accessible 24/7 from off campus. .
Manchester IT provision is also amongst the best in the country, and is constantly growing in scale. All new students are issued with their own email account and have the use of several computer clusters which provide standard university software as will as a range of specialist software for the social sciences.
