Funding
Funding your studies will be a crucial factor in your decision to apply for a postgraduate degree, so the earlier you consider your funding options, the better.
You can choose to pay your own tuition fees and living costs, or you can seek whole or partial funding from various sources.
The sources of funding available are different for UK/EU and international students (non UK/EU).

President's doctoral scholar award
The University of Manchester has launched a further £2.5m investment in PhD training with the creation of the President's Doctoral Scholar Awards (PDS). These prestigious awards are open to all nationalities and research areas.
Within the Faculty of Humanities, PDS funding will be allocated to our most outstanding applicants seeking PhD training opportunities starting from September 2012.
The successful PDS student(s) will entitle also receive a further £1, 000 enhancement to their funded stipend/living allowance. They will also have the opportunity to:
- Be invited to attend a series of exclusive events where you’ll have the opportunity to meet the University of Manchester President and Vice Chancellor, interact closely with our academic community and network with other PDS students.
- Benefit from international research leadership under distinguished scholars
- Become a PDS ambassador for the University
- Receive a President’s Doctoral Scholar medal at graduation
- Benefit from our extensive transferable skills training for PhD researchers

- Overseas Research Studentship Awards (ORSA) (School award; 4 available which cover the difference between home/EU and overseas fees)
- AHRC (PhD Philosophy and MA Visual Anthropology programmes only). Please note that AHRC applicants are required to submit an additional supporting statement. 500 words for Masters programme and 1000 words for PhD.

Eligibility
All applicants for PhD studentships must have (or expect to obtain) a Masters degree at Merit level (60% average) or equivalent.
How to Apply
ALL applicants wishing to be considered for ANY of the funding opportunities listed above MUST do the following;
- Submit a complete on-line University programme application (including; research proposal, two academic references, degree transcripts)
- Submit a School Funding Form
Deadline
1 MARCH 2012 (applications received after this date will not be considered for funding).
Advise all applicants to submit their on-line application and funding form by Friday 24 February 2012 to ensure that all documents are received by the final deadline.
