Postgraduate research events

Develop your presenting skills and expand your network by taking part in events specifically for postgraduate researchers.

As a research student in Philosophy, you will have plenty of opportunities to get involved in seminars and workshops throughout the year.

Research seminars

Each year we organise a dedicated research seminar programme which includes:

  • visiting speakers;
  • papers by staff members;
  • papers by final year PhD students.

Work in progress seminars

A postgraduate 'work in progress' seminar series, run by PhD students for PhD students, providing the opportunity to develop your presentation skills and get constructive feedback on your work-in-progress from a friendly audience.

'Open Minds'

An annual postgraduate conference, run by postgraduate students in the department. The conference is in its thirteenth year.

Other postgraduate research events

We hold an annual 'welcome workshop' with papers and presentations from both staff and PhD students to welcome new research students.

We also hold regular conferences and workshops involving major national and international philosophers. You can normally attend these free of charge. Visit our events page to find more information about past and future conferences, seminars, and workshops at Manchester.
