About Real Life Methods

Real Life Methods was part of the ESRC's National Centre for Research Methods [new window]. NCRM aims to improve research methods skills and techniques used by social scientists.

Real Life Methods Node was based at the Morgan Centre, University of Manchester and Leeds Social Science Institute, University of Leeds.

Research

Our research was based in the subject areas of family, youth and community. The research programme was made up of four projects and a programme of synergising activities. Our methodological approach mirrored the interdisciplinary nature of the research by combining different methods with the aim of grasping the multi-dimensionality of 'real lives'.

Training and Capacity Building

Our training and capacity building programme included training workshops for the academic social science community, and for research users and social scientists working outside academia, a seminar programme, linked PhD studentship and masters bursary, and visiting fellowships/placements.

For archive information about Real Life Methods research, events and other activities see the Real Life Methods website [opens in new window].

For information on similar research and capacity building activities, see the Realities website (work started under Real Life Methods is continued and developed under Realities).
