Background
Bsc. Computer Science (Cum Laude). The Open University, Isreal (2006)
MA Sociology & Anthropology (Suma Cum Laude) Tel-Aviv University, Isreal (2011)
My current research interests lie within the sociology of technology and science, Sociology of family relations, with a specific focus on the role of reproduction technologies in shaping and refreshing family life. Additional research interests are queer theory, feminist theory, and globalization and neo-liberalisation studies.
My MA dissertation suggested an analysis of the emerging gay community centre in Tel-Aviv as a site for embedding neo-liberal governmentality within Isreali GLBT activism and community practices. Utilising Latour's Actant-Network-Theory it provided analysis of the linkage between macro-social economic shifts and micro-identity subjectivity practices that emerged in the GLBT community during the last decade.
PhD thesis
Surrogacy and 'Gay Dads' as a Case Study for Family Discourse Analysis. Supervised by: Professor Brian Heaphy & Dr Vanessa May.
My research focuses on the ways in which state apparatuses and scientific discourse-praxis affect social norms - kinship structures, family practices, and emotions of closeness and relatedness. My case-study, Israeli gay men that utilise surrogacy in their pursuit of parenthood and family building, enables me to discuss underlying relations between state governmental powers, technology, economic forces and everyday interpersonal practices.
