I am Lecturer in Sociology. My PhD is "Differentiating the Self: How Middle-aged Gay Men in Manchester Respond to Ageing and Gay Ageism"
Research interests
Gender and sexuality, sociology of the body, ageing, cultural change, social theory and qualitative research methodologies and methods (especially interviewing and participant observation).

- Middle-aged gay men’s responses to age and ageism in Manchester’s gay village
- How middle-aged gay men negotiate hidden ‘homospaces.’
- How middle-aged gay men in Manchester negotiate heterosexually defined spaces.
- How midlife gay men differentiate themselves from younger gay men through narratives of kinship practice.
