Research Centres
University of Manchester
CultMEP is an interdisciplinary research centre which aims to develop new approaches to the study of political identities in modern Europe. It brings together recent trends in political history - notably the focus on citizenship, liberal governmentality, and mechanisms of political exclusion - with cultural historians' focus on imagined communities, memory, and the symbolic representation of belonging. Following the Centre's successful inaugural conference in March 2006, we are planning an ambitious programme of research projects, international collaborations, conferences and publications.
This Centre is affiliated to the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in the Arts.
The European Politics Research Unit (EPRU), which is based in the School
of Social Sciences, is a research group comprising academics and Ph.D. students
working on European politics and policy. EPRU
is directed by Dr Dimitris Papadimitriou.
Martin Burch and collaborators from the University of Edinburgh
and Westminster have undertaken ESRC-funded research on devolution
and European policy-making in the UK.
PREST
(Policy Research in Engineering, Science and Technology), based in Manchester
Business School, conducts research on EU science and technology policy.
It is engaged in a number of EU-funded research projects.
EWERC (The European Work and Employment Research Centre), also based in Manchester Business School, is undertaking research projects on European policies relating to gender, employment, social inclusion and childcare. It is also engaged in a number of EU-funded projects.
Manchester Metropolitan University
The Manchester European Research Institute (MERI), established in 2003, aims at sustaining and enhancing research potential in areas focusing on European issues or involving Europe's relationship with the rest of the world, especially in the cultural, economic, legal, literary, political and social fields.
