Social Movement Research Group
The aim of our group is to provide a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas, to foster collaborative work and to promote excellent research in social movements conducted in the University of Manchester. Our objective is to develop and extend our knowledge of mobilization and protest through engagement with theoretically informed and methodologically innovative research. We critically apply social movement theory to analyse protest in variety of historical and cultural contexts.
Our group includes academic staff, researchers, doctoral and postgraduate students who share interest in social movements. The members of our group hold a number prestigious grants and collaborate with each other on variety of projects. We meet regularly as a reading group and act as a peer review network. In September 2009 we held one day conference, a tradition we aim to continue annually. Although we have few specific research interests (listed below), we are always keen to welcome to our group new members with different research interests.
