Undergraduate study

Staff in Social Statistics contribute to the development and delivery of undergraduate teaching in the School of Social Sciences.

Current areas of teaching include demography (including a popular final year option on the BA(Econ) programme SOCY30274: Theory and Method in Demography), and the secondary analysis of survey data (SOCY2012: Survey Research and Quantitative Analysis and SOCY2031: Secondary Analysis of  Social Surveys).

Working in conjunction with Sociology and with funding from the ESRC, we have developed teaching materials specifically designed to help improve the use of survey data by undergraduate students, building on the in-house resources of the Economic and Social Data Service Government. This has led to the development of a new module for second year sociology students (Secondary Analysis of  Social Surveys), specifically designed to enthuse and equip students to utilise large scale survey datasets in their final year dissertations.
