Manchester Anthropology Working Papers

Social Anthropology at Manchester University established the Working Paper series in summer 2004 with the aim of bringing intellectual debates and interests at Manchester to the attention of a wider public. The working papers are of various types, but all invite discussion and feedback. Some are the current work of staff; some are papers given at the departmental seminar series; others are lectures by visiting scholars and distinguished guests.

The Forman Lectures, an annual event organised by the department’s Centre for Visual Anthropology in conjunction with Granada TV, constitute a special subsection within the series.

As the main aim of the working paper series is to promote intellectual exchange, the style is intentionally kept informal: many of the papers retain the form of the original talk, and they often present work in progress rather than polished or finalised arguments. The papers constitute a pre-publication, and access to individual papers can be blocked any time should the author intend to publish it in any other form. Quotation or citation is with consent of the author only.
