On 18-19 September 2008, the organizers of the project held their second workshop in Manchester with 20 participants. In addition to the involvement of most of the members of our international network (see section on International Collaborators), the workshop attracted the participation of Victoria Donovan, Sheila Fitzpatrick, Saulius Grybkauskas, Steve Kotkin, Alena Ledeneva, Nikolai Mitrokhin and Nikolai Ssorin-Chaikov.

On 22 November Yoram Gorlizki presented a paper entitled “The Larionov Affair Reconsidered,” based on the project, at the 40th AAASS Convention in Philadelphia, alongside papers by James W. Heinzen, and Brian Lapierre at a session entitled “Crime, Deception and the State under Stalin and Khrushchev.” David Shearer was the commentator.
On 22 March 2009, Yoram Gorlizki is presenting a paper on “Ethnic Politics after Stalin” at a conference on National Identity in Eurasia:Identities & Traditions, at New College Oxford. The conference is a part of the AHRC funded project,  National Identity in Russia from 1961 : Traditions & Deterritorialisation (for more on which see the section on International Collaborators)
