Welcome to Politics at Manchester, one of the largest and strongest Politics groupings in the UK. Founded in 1949, and known as the Department of Government until 2004, Politics at Manchester has a long and distinguished history as a centre of research and education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Politics at Manchester performed very well in the most recent (2008) Research Assessment Exercise. According to official figures:

This result places Politics at Manchester in 4th place among the UK's politics departments in terms of Research Power.

Politics at Manchester's large size (over 40 full time members of staff), supports a wide range of specialist interests, including International Relations, International Political Economy, the Politics of Development, Political Theory, Public Policy, European Politics, British and US Politics; and we have long been known for our broad and varied undergraduate and graduate programmes . We offer a relaxed and friendly environment and cosmopolitan atmosphere - with staff and students from all over the world.
