Social and Political Philosophy
In social and political philosophy, Harry Lesser has research interests in both the philosophy of law and healthcare ethics. He is currently working on the issue of justice for the elderly. John O’Neill co-directs the Political Economy Institute, and has research interests in political theory and philosophical aspects of political economy and environmental policy. He is currently working on intellectual property rights and theories of well-being. Thomas Smith works on both metaphysical and ethical aspects of social groups, in particular the notions of agreement, joint action and joint commitment. Thomas Uebel has research interests in the philosophy of social science, in particular issues concerning methodological individualism and value neutrality. He is currently working on Neurath’s philosophy of social science. Manchester philosophy also has strong links with the Manchester Centre for Political Theory (MANCEPT).
