Aesthetics
Aesthetics is an important area of research expertise at Manchester. The nature of depiction is the dominant theme in the work of Catharine Abell. Julian Dodd works on the ontology of music, and on topics in the philosophy of music generally.
Manchester is also home to MANCEV, a hub for research into the emotions and their relation to both aethetic and ethical value.
In the 2009 Philosophical Gourmet Report, Manchester was ranked amongst the top philosophy departments in the English speaking world for the Philosophy of Art.
