Social Anthropology has been taught at Manchester since 1949 and is recognised nationally and internationally as one of the premier centres for research and teaching. Since 1987, it has included the internationally-renowned Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology.
The newest discipline area within the School of Social Sciences and one of very few such groupings in the UK. It includes colleagues in the Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and Survey Research (CCSR).
We are one of the largest groups of sociologists in the UK doing some of the most innovative and exciting research and teaching to be found anywhere in the world.
