She was awarded the University Renmin Scholarship for the undergraduate studies. Other honors included the University Outstanding Student, the University Studentship and Departmental Graduate Representative. In September 2007, she graduated with an MSc* in Economics (with merit) from the University of Edinburgh and joined in Manchester. Research interests and teaching

Jing is jointly supervised by Dr. Adam Ozanne, Dr. Bernard Walters, Dr. Xiaobing Wang and Mr. Nick Weaver. Using large household survey data, her doctoral research draws upon microeconometric models to examine households’ welfare and poverty in rural China since the reforms that began in 1978. Her main research interests are in the fields of development economics and applied econometrics, such as issues related to poverty, vulnerability, inequality and multidimensional well-being, programme evaluation and the role of risk and household behaviour for reducing poverty. In addition, she is also interested in climate change and sustainable development, in particular, the challenges for sustainable energy consumption and economic growth facing China. She has presented her research at several international conferences held at Oxford University, Peking University, the Royal Economic Society, OECD Headquarters, and the Economic Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture.

Jing has tutored for ECON60792 Project Appraisal and Cost Benefit Analysis (postgraduate), and ECON10071 Advanced Mathematics (undergraduate).
