Background

Mohammad completed his first degree and masters in Economics from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Recently he has been awarded MSc in Economics and Econometrics with merit from the University of Manchester (2009). He is now in his first year of PhD in Economics under the supervision of Dr. Martyn Andrews and Dr. Alastair Hall.  His doctoral study is sponsored by Graduate Teaching Assistantship award and Economics Discipline Area award from the University of Manchester.

Mohammad has an extensive research background relating micro and macro economics with rigorous use of advanced econometric tools. One of his contributions is the construction of a quarterly, and then an annual macroeconometric model for the Bangladesh Economy that have been used for policy simulations by the Asian Development Bank and Planning Commission, Bangladesh respectively. Besides, he has good command in handling and managing survey data. He worked in collaboration with Food and Agriculture Organization and World Food Program regarding estimating the extent of calorie-poor using Household Income and Expenditure surveys of Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Research Interests

Mohammad’s current research involves applications of Regression Discontinuity Design, which is a relatively new technique for analyzing treatment effect of any policy. He has applied this new method in analyzing effects of safety net program on calorie consumption in Bangladesh using Bangladeshi household survey data. His research interests also involve exploring ways of improving the identifying conditions of treatment group and control group in RDD.   

Teaching

Mohammad is a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the modules ECON10081 UK Economy- Microeconomics and ECON20341 Business Economics 1A.
