Background
In 1993 I graduated from The University of Humberside School of Food and Fisheries with a BSc(Hons) Food Technology. In addition I gained a scholarship from Marks and Spencer Plc and was awarded the Grimsby Food Town Young Person Award in recognition of my contribution to the food industry.
I then spent the following 15 years successfully in the food industry gaining valuable experience in retail, consultancy and manufacturing. As well as working directly with manufacturing sites, due to the experience and application of knowledge and research I am recognised as an expert in egg processing, poultry and as a troubleshooter with particular reference to microbiological and hygiene related issues. In addition this experience has been used to co-author and advise on guidance documents for the industry.
Research Interests
In December 2007 I decided to change career direction and applied for the advertised ESRC studentship "PhD - Perceptions, risks and costs of food-borne pathogens: Salmonella and Campylobacter". I started in September 2008.
My PhD research will be supervised by Dr. Dan Rigby and Prof. Ada Wossink. In addition, microbiological work will be conducted in conjunction with Bangor University. Supervisors at Bangor are Prof. Gareth Edward-Jones and Prof. Davey Jones.
