Professional engagements

Shafiul joined Bangladesh Planning Commission following his MSS degree and worked there in the Socio-Economic Infrastructure Division for two years. He was then deputed in the UNDP – GoB initiative 'Sustainable Human Development (SHD) Project' where he was involved in preparing various case studies and technical papers to feed the socio-economic policy making process of the Bangladesh Planning Commission. In 2003 he was again posted in the General Economics Division of the Planning Commission and worked there until Oct.2006 when he came to the University of Manchester for his MSc + PhD programme.

Research interests

Shafiul's primary area of research revolves around some of the micro econometric issues like – analysing households' poverty and vulnerability to poverty, risks, uncertainty and the underlying dynamics that leads households dive into and out of poverty and vulnerability in a developing country context. Other areas of interests include investigating the micro-macro linkages for better understanding the coherent policy perspectives in areas of economic wellbeing and poverty reduction.
