Additional Information

Reyer Gerlagh is a former whiz kid who made the turn to become a social science researcher. As a secondary school student, he won the 6th Prize in the Dutch Mathematics Olympiad (1986), the 1st Prize at the Dutch Physics Olympiad (1987), a Bronze Medal at the International Mathematics Olympiad (Cuba 1987), and a Silver Medal at the International Physics Olympiad (Austria, 1988). In leisure time, apart from multi-day hikes in the mountains, he mostly likes reading popular science. He believes Richard P. Feynman’s books are among the most entertaining, (the title of one book ‘What Do You Care What Other People Think?’ seems sufficiently clear). In office time, he tries to convince students that environmental and resource economics, which is about linking real-life problems with funny math models and charts, is not scary, but great fun.
