Manchester one of the top universities for social sciences
The Shanghai Ranking 2016, an academic ranking of world universities, has revealed its top performers for social sciences.
Manchester has been placed 7th in Europe and 4th in the UK for social sciences.
The ‘Academic Ranking of World Universities’, also known as the ‘Shanghai Jiao Tong’ league table, is a highly respected measure of international quality.
This year Manchester as a whole reached an all-time high in this table, coming in at 35th in the world and 5th in the UK.
But it’s in social sciences that Manchester has performed particularly well, ranked 7th in Europe and 4th in the UK.
The ranking is based on a number of indicators measuring research excellence at universities, including alumni awards, publications, citations and funding.
